The SeaBreeze 25 is a remote-controlled paraplane model (powered parachute), designed and built by Troy Hawthorne in Florida.

It’s backbone is a Piano-wire and wooden frame construction, holding a 0.25-sized gasoline engine. The steering mechanism is a control bar that shifts the trike gondola’s center of balance, which pulls down the parachutes wing tips and forces it to turn. The simplicity of design requires only two standard servo’s for throttle and steering, and any remote-control radio will work since only two channels are needed.

Of course the biggest and most impressive part of a paraplane is the parachute wing. This is an airfoil design: During flight, air is inflating a set of parachute cells forming a wing shape. The shape provides lift, depending on the paraplane’s speed. A well-balanced paraplane can have its engine cut off, and gently glide down to the ground by its own weight; gravity and the parachute’s wing angle create enough speed and lift to continue the flight unpowered.

The SeaBreeze 25 flies a rectangular shaped parafoil, consisting of eighteen air cells. It has an impressive 62″ X 24″ wingspan (1.60m x 0.60m). Larger parachutes, and a variety of paraplane models and building plans for gasoline and electric can be purchased at www.seabreezeparachutes.com.
